AFTER FIVE ROTARY NEWS

Congratulations: Club elections were held in December, 2019. Jennifer Michaelangelo, who was elected Treasurer, and Sam Evans was elected Director.

10 Year Anniversary Party will be held on January 25th from 4:30pm-7:30pm at Larks, Inn at the Commons. Come celebrate our club's anniversary.

Poker for Polio- Our annual fund raising event is coming up in February, the 29th, at the University Club, next door to the Holly Theater. At this time, we still need a Title Sponsor which is a $1,000 and a Table Sponsor at $500, both of these sponsorships come with a number of tickets also.  Please see Scott Brodie to learn more about how you can help.

Community Service Opportunity Facebook Group-  As a club, we sponsor one service project a month- except during months when we have a fundraiser. We hear about many other service events set up by fellow service organizations and/or other Rotary clubs. Because we all have the heart to serve, and to keep from overwhelming our members with the all vast number of service opportunities, we have decided to create a Facebook group so our members can keep up to date on all the events offered and participate as their schedule permits. This group is linked to our Facebook page, and is open to community organization and members to post service opportunities. This is a great way for our club members, or anyone who likes our Facebook page, to get involved in our community. You can join this from the Rogue Valley After Five Facebook page, or reach out to Jennie McLaughlin to request an invitation.

Rogue Power Pack Program has on now.  For a quick hour every Friday (sometimes Thursday) it is a fun little project that runs from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.  For the 2019-2020 school year at Orchard Hill Elementary we are now using the SignUp.com site for all of us to select our volunteer slots. Remember, we need two volunteers per week and it takes about an hour and you must have done your background check with the Phoenix/Talent School District.

Speaking of Polio, Rotary District 5240 is putting together an immunization trip to India.  The dates of the trip will most likely be January 13 through January 25th.  Though the door to door immunization will be conducted for one day, participants will need to be in good shape, both physically and mentally due to the amount of walking and long hours.  Details for this trip were provided by our own PDG Chuck Root and the average cost to join this service trip is around $3,000 to $3,500.  There are a lot of requirements that need to be meet per the information provided (check with Eric for details), but it is something to look into for this or future immunization trips to help with the fight against Polio.

WiFi is all in and ready to roll.  For club member use only, the SSID is JCP-AFR and the password is AFRrocks! and the public use is labeled as JCP-Public with the password as jcprocks.  Big thanks to Eric and all who helped to get this running.

Rotary International Convention for 2020 is being held in Honolulu Hawai'i in June and registration is officially open on www.Rotary.org.  These are amazing events and beware the US held ones tend to have a higher attendance rate.  Also, did any see the Facebook post from our District this past week?  Someone in our District has the lucky chance to win paid flights to Hawai'i at our Rotary Year Kickoff Training in August and you must be present to win.
